Our oldest son Robert in grade 9 wrote a poem for the NL Arts & letters Competition. He told us that he wasted most of the class time and in the last five minutes he decided he better produce a poem for his teacher to be submitted. Being the clever fellow he is, he submitted a haiku. To our amazement several months following the submission we were notified by his English teacher who told us that Robert had won with his Haiku in over 500 entries and we were invited to visit the rooms in St. John's for reading and a special meet and greet. He still insists that he wants royalties for the usage of his poem but we tell him consider it payback.
